I had a design job in the Spring of 2020 in downtown Brevard. The house was located on Probart st. near Caldwell st. I met with the client and was hired to create a design. I submitted the design and the next day received a phone call from the client. Two days prior her hosta had been eaten for the first time since she had lived there. A lot of us know that hosta’s are “deer salad” and highly sought after by the deer. The plant choices had to change because of the “new pest” on her property.

While I work to compile a local and more informative list of plant material, the Rutgers University plant list is a helpful list of recommendations. For the Brevard township and surrounding area, I would only use A or B rated plants. If your area has been increasing in deer population, you may need to resort to rated A in the Rutgers Deer Resistant Lists.
